Product Description One way to create profitability for promoters in the notoriously fringe world of jazz was to organize these sorts of all star revue shows. They were in vogue from the late 1940’s through the mid-1960’s, and often featured a who’s-who of contemporary jazz artists. This poster is a re-creation of an original from 1960, announcing an All Star Jazz Concert presented by the Los Pied Pipers club at the historic 369th Regiment Armory in Harlem, New York City. Vocalists Chris Connor, Al Hibbler and Carmen McCrae were joined by the groups of Horace Silver, Illinois Jacquet, Thelonious Monk, J. J. Johnson, Art Blakey, Gigi Gryce, Steve Puliiam and Julian “Cannonball” Adderley. Comedians Slappy White and MC Timmie Rogers rounded out the bill. Blakey’s Jazz Messengers of this era featured Benny Golson and Lee Morgan, and Adderley had just started his own band after leaving Miles Davis‘ group. Note the then high-tech inclusion of “10 stereophonic speakers.” Original copies of this poster are extremely rare, but now you can own this lovingly re-created version for a fraction of what an original would cost.
