Description We’re psyched to have the Voigtlander Zoomar 36-82mm T/3.1 in house. The lens was designed in the late 50’s and started flooding the market in the early 60’s as an extremely marketable and capable zoom to match the 135 format (full-frame) cameras they were producing. The lens is fully rehoused by GL Optics, a long standby within the rehousing community on behalf of Ancient Optics, and is parfocal, precise, and mechanically excellent- fully capable of standing up to the stress of any set. The elements are singularly coated, which leads the lens to a lower contrast rendering that flares pretty intensely. Flaring is a gorgeous gold and rose tinged wash, with a set of fairly prominent and complex flare artifacts that fill the frame. The lens renders bokeh with a dimensionality and texture reminiscent of lenses like Leica’s M.8 sets, or Super Baltars, and there’s a notable amount of edge falloff in terms of sharpness. The lens’s 136mm front clears on our ARRI LMB 4×5″ with no vignetting, so no 6×6 matteboxes or filters are needed, and features a 2’9″ CF, full 330 degree focus rotation, a rock solid PL mount, standard gearings, and a 15-blade rounded iris.
